IGLP and The Study of Capitalism- Spring Speaker Series
March 1, 2013
The IGLP and The Study of Capitalism, lead by IGLP Advisory Council Member Christine Desan were pleased to announce that the 2012-2013 Study of Capitalism Workshop was centered around Finance Capitalism.
The financial crisis of 2008-2009 (and continuing) exposed the urgency of understanding the modern architecture of money and finance. The seminar began with several reading sessions. One focused on varied approaches — liberal, Marxist, and unaligned — to finance capitalism and its power. Another reading session considered the phenomenon of instability in the modern financial order.
In turn, we heared from scholars who are grappling with these issues in their own scholarship. For each of the latter sessions, the reading included the new scholarship being presented, along with background readings chosen by the speaker. (Speaker sessions were open to the interested public as well.)
