Views from the Bench on Legal Education, an IGLP Co-Sponsored Event

The SJD Association and the IGLP are pleased to announce their co-sponsored panel discussion, Views from the Bench on Legal Education on March 13, 2013 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm in WSS 1015 at Harvard Law School. The discussion will feature current and former judges from three continents to talk about legal education. The panel discussion will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a period of moderated discussion followed by an open Q&A. Panelists will include Justice Rosalie Abella, Supreme Court of Canada, Professor Manuel José Cepeda Espinosa, former Justice and President of the Constitutional Court of Colombia, and Judge Wanjiru Karanja, Kenya Court of Appeal.Opening remarks will be given by Harvard Law School Dean, Martha Minow and the discussion will be moderated by a member of the Harvard Law School Faculty.

The SJD Association is eager to learn about how different judges understand the judicial decision-making process and the role of courts in their societies, and about how law schools might better prepare future advocates in light of the judges’ insights. The event should give HLS students the opportunity to learn more about comparative law, legal ethics, and judicial perspectives on legal education.
