State Aid Control in the European Union

IGLP is proud to co-sponsor a number of events, including lectures and workshops, organized by the RCC. On October 18th, 2017, José Manuel Martínez Sierra, Director of RCC, engaged in a conversation witheProf. Pasquale Pistone on the recent trend from the European Commission to progressively but systematically reduce State aid to companies. As the financial and economic crisis comes to a more definitive end, the Commission has been vigilant for making sure Banks and/or other concerned financial institutions will repay the support received. State aid can take many different forms, the most problematic of which is tax-incentives. The European Commission has been investigating whether and to what extent some Member States have been offering and/or actually giving large multinational companies selective tax-breaks that further erode the tax base of other States where such companies do business.
