Human Rights in a Time of Populism
March 23, 2018 - March 24, 2018
Populism is on the rise worldwide, including in places that have for long considered themselves immune from such threat. Whether populism is a disease of democracies, a symptom of deeper and more structural societal problems, or a healthy and somewhat revitalizing phase of the political life, it is open to question. However, populism does question and potentially collide with human rights. IGLP was thus proud to co-sponsor the Conference on Human Rights in Time of Populism, organized by the Human Rights Program at Harvard Law School, during which speakers will engage with the notion of populism, discussing the potential of human rights in responding to such growing phenomenon. The two-days Conference aimed at gathering voices and experiences from around the world to confront the challenge better equipped with intellectual and practical tools. Participants included Prof. Martha Minow, Prof. Gerald Neuman, Helena Alviar García, and many more.
