Crunching the Core

March 17, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Our next session of the Crunching the Core will take place on Friday, March 17th at 10:00-11:30 EST. In this session, we will discuss criminality discourse/the criminal turn (from ecocide to responses to the war in Ukraine – and as depicted in the first two readings) and try to think about how we might unmove this move.

Leading us will be Zina Miller, Chris Gevers and Richard Clements. They will be setting up our discussion of the following texts:

  • Josep Borrell, On Metaphors and Geo-Politics (Oct 18, 2022)
  • Haroon Siddique, “Legal Experts Worldwide Draw Up “Historic” Definition of Ecocide”, The Guardian (June 22, 2021)
  • Karen Engle, Anti-Impunity and the Turn to Criminal Law in Human Rights, 100 Cornell L. R. 1069 (2015)
  • Toni Morison, Playing in the Dark: Whiteness and the Literary Imagination (1992)
