Modes of Circulation

April 4, 2019

Seminar Modes of Circulation Spring 2019 / Cambridge, MA

During the Spring 2019, the Fellows organised a semester-long workshop series titled “Modes of Circulation”. The initiative emerged from the basic observation that most people around IGLP conduct research on themes that deal with circulation, but such research often focuses on that which is circulated rather than the dynamic of circulation as such. Hence, there is usually little or no analysis as to the particular mode or modes in which those particular things are being circulated. Ideally, a focus on circulation and its modes should cast light over dynamics of power that would otherwise remain somewhat concealed and thus neglected. Modes of Circulation has been organised as a workshop bringing together young and senior IGLP members to develop a common conversation. Each session engaged with a general theme (e.g., “ideas”, “power”, “money”), taking the move from a recent work of one senior IGLP faculty, who would then lead the conversation by taking a step back from the work to reflect more on the circulation aspect.
