Advanced Faculty Colloquium: Law and Technologies of Power

How are the legacies of colonialism relevant for understanding contemporary legal and political arrangements?  How might we advance — or move beyond —  insights drawn from TWAIL and fellow travelers?  Is “colonialism” a productive starting point for analyzing North/North or South/South relations?  “Colonialism” was many things in many places.  And there was no colonialism independent of other cultural, economic, legal and political projects and dynamics.   Terms such as postcolonial, decolonial, and neocolonial continue to be mobilized in popular as well as scholarly arenas. So also the word “empire.”  Each sometimes productively — sometimes not so much. Let’s think about how and when and whether together.
